Hello and welcome to M&C Energy Group's blog

We're delighted to be introducing this new, informal means of commenting on all aspects of the energy markets.

Our team monitor the markets daily and are aware of everything that happens, as it happens - basically, when it comes to energy, if we don't know it it's not worth knowing!

Please feel free to comment on our blogs within the comments fields and if you have any suggestions for areas you would like to see us covering then please email us at corporatecommunications@mcenergygroup.com

Prospects for UK energy policy under coalition options

UK energy policy is framed around low carbon – led energy security, with much to be done to realise that goal. Nuclear new build, reshaping the markets to deliver investment, a robust planning system and cleaning up fossil fuel power are all focal points within the framework. Does a hung parliament risk an energy crisis?

As the UK political parties make their way through the morass of policy issues pointing the way to (or potentially blocking) coalitions or electoral deals, the focus has been on the budget deficit and electoral reform. Justifiably so to a degree, but it is concerning that the area of energy policy seems far down the [...]

The weak UK economy continues to dampen energy demand

The UK’s industrial gas and electricity demand shows little prospect of any imminent recovery after factory production unexpectedly fell in January.
Data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) confirmed that manufacturing output dropped 0.9 per cent, compared to December, crushing economists’ forecasts of a 0.2 percent increase. Industrial gas and power demand has been estimated [...]

First cuts not the deepest – where now for UK’s hard-pressed energy customers?

It’s not an easy time to be an energy consumer, particularly not in the domestic market. Prices for homes are near recent record levels, while suppliers enjoy ever increasing profits on the back of falling wholesale prices.
The country is in recession, and we are coming through a harsh winter meaning that people are facing the [...]
